IHRSA: Congratulations to Allyson Felix

Olympian Allyson Felix, a member of the President's Council on Fitness, Sport & Nutrition, speaks during the final general session at the annual Convention and Trade Show in Los Angeles.IHRSA would like to give a big shout out to United States track & field star Allyson Felix for her gold medal in the 200 meters yesterday.

Felix moonlights as a member of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, in which IHRSA is a partner. Felix, who had captured silver medals in the event in the past two Olympics, also was on a panel in the final general session of this past March's Convention and Trade Show.

Felix had been cruising in her heats leading up to the finals last night. But she had plenty of competition in fellow Americans Carmelita Jeter and Sanya Richards-Ross, as well as Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown, the two-time gold medalist. However, Felix out-kicked Fraser-Pryce, who finished with the silver. Jeter held off Campbell-Brown for the bronze.

"I was in tears after the race in Beijing," Felix said. "It's just the opposite tonight. For it all to come together, it's just an extremely special moment.

"It's relief, joy, a flood of emotions."
