IHRSA supports new Presidential Youth Fitness test

We all remember it like it was yesterday. Gym class this week would be about the Presidential Youth Fitness Program test. How many pullup-s and sit-ups can we do? Can you climb the rope to the top?

Those series of tests determined who was the most athletic in your class, grade and school. While that is good as far as a bragging tool on the playground, it didn't much to gauge the health of the student.

Now the President's Council on Fitness, Sport & Nutrition has switched up the standards to, "focus primarily on assessing health versus athleticism for America's youth," according to Dr. Jayne Greenberg, a member of the PCFSN and school district administrator in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

As you can guess, IHRSA is a big supporter of the change. Check out our monthly column on the US Department of Health & Human Services blog that explains why.
