Embracing common ground to solve our healthcare crisis

The desire to contain healthcare spending and reduce the federal deficit is something all Americans want. And somewhere beyond all the political posturing and rancor, there is a bipartisan solution. But if we sincerely want to solve the health-healthcare quagmire that keeps dragging us down, we must be willing to embrace the common ground.

Both parties agree that healthcare spending threatens the future prosperity of our country. In fact, we spend nearly 18 percent of America’s GDP on health. And most respected economists will tell you that until we deal with the healthcare issue we can’t effectively fix the deficit or our economy. Yet the topic of healthcare reform continues to polarize politicians and constituents alike.

The healthcare issue is going to continue to be a problem with the baby boomers living longer. It is an issue that will always divide people.
