Surgeon General says "Physical Inactivity is the Major Public Health Issue"

Last week, acting Surgeon General Boris Lushniak put an exclamation point on the importance of physical activity promotion at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Annual meeting in Orlando, declaring physical inactivity "the major public health issue in this country."

During a discussion of the impact of physical inactivity on the nations health, economy, and citizens' well-being, Lushniak declared: "physical inactivity is the major public health issue in this country."  He also highlighted the importance of community outreach and prevention, saying, "health and wellness are a national treasure," and "physical activity is one of the most important things a person can do for improved health."
