Sports Medicine Doc Says We Should Pay People to Exercise

Leading U.S. sports medicine doctor says we should pay people to exercise

Jordan Metzel, a nationally recognized sports medicine physician and author of "The Exercise Cure," has written a piece for Slate that demonstrates why America needs incentives for exercise in its tax code.

Metzel writes: "We're missing a great opportunity to save money on U.S. health care expenditures and save lives from obesity-related disease: The tax code should be revised to reward preventive health." He goes on to include financial incentives for health clubs. "For example...the government could credit joining a gym."
