Regina Benjamin Steps Down as Surgeon General

U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin announced last week that she is resigning, after four years on the job. Since her first days in office, Dr. Benjamin has been a champion for wellness and made great strides in shifting the focus of America’s health care system from disease treatment to prevention. Benjamin oversaw the creation of the first ever National Prevention Strategy and released the Surgeon General’s Vision for a Healthy and Fit Nation.

Dr. Benjamin demonstrated her support for the health and fitness industry by speaking at the 30th Annual IHRSA Convention and Trade Show in San Francisco, Calif. Last month in Washington, DC, she walked alongside IHRSA members and other prevention advocacy groups through Capitol Hill as part of her Everybody Walk! campaign.

IHRSA commends Dr. Benjamin for her dedicated service and passion for healthy lifestyles. We thank her for her many achievements in moving the dial toward a healthier America.
