Federal Minimum Wage Addressed During State of the Union

During the annual State of the Union speech, President Barack Obama spoke about raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.

Currently, one state – Washington – has a minimum wage higher than $9. This means that if the proposal were to become law, health clubs in 49 states would see an increase in their minimum employee-pay rate.

Any proposal included in the State of the Union, which includes many long-term policy goals, has a long way to go before becoming law. At this point, it has yet to materialize as legislation.
