IHRSA Petitions for ADA Compliance Extension

In response to industry concerns over the new ADA pool and spa regulations, IHRSA has asked the Department of Justice to extend the compliance deadline to at least September 17, 2012. As reported earlier, The Department had extended the original deadline by 60 days to May 15, 2012, but pool and spa operators said it is still not enough time.

IHRSA has asked that the deadline be extended to at least September 17th of this year, so that clubs can properly evaluate and comply with the new standards. “Despite the Department’s best efforts to clarify the new requirements, reasonable and well-intentioned owners and operators remain highly uncertain of their obligations,” said IHRSA President and CEO, Joe Moore. “The extension will give operators the time they need to properly comply with the ADA standards.”

The Department has not yet announced when it intends to vote on the ruling, but IHRSA will inform member clubs of the outcome as soon as the information becomes available.
