Illinois Club Affected by Federal Pool Safety Law

A health club in Illinois is being affected by the October 1st deadline to comply with a new federal pool and spa safety law. According to the Daily Herald, Wheaton Sports Center in Wheaton, Illinois has had to prohibit club members from using its two hot tubs that officials say are out of compliance with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act, enacted in 2007. The Act requires all public pools and spas to be outfitted with specific drain covers designed to prevent strong suction that could trap swimmers.

Additionally, a September 28th ruling by U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission imposes stricter requirements. For more information on the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act, please visit
