The Grassroots Initiative
The Grassroots Initiative is a campaign designed to help the 100,000 fitness professionals across America form a standing army of advocates to mobilize on behalf of effective health policies. Currently, there are a number of important issues to help policy makers understand the role we play in a healthy America.
As we seek to become more active and visible, major national and regional healthcare leaders and organizations are praising our efforts. While this is a strong start, we need the help of individual fitness professionals like you to communicate regularly with community leaders, educators, the media and elected officials about your role in improving the health of your community.
Why Advocacy Now?
Health policy makers understand the role regular exercise plays in combating increasing rates of heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Less apparent is the indispensable role fitness professionals have in improving their clients' health.
While our life's work revolves around health, policy makers still need to recognize this. To help them better understand our role and responsibility, America's health and fitness professionals are coming together through the Grassroots Initiative to ensure that our industry is represented in discussing the issues that are important to us.
The Heart of the Matter
Heart disease is the number one killer in America, the number of diabetes cases continues to rise, and there is not yet an effective national solution to the obesity epidemic. Through your work and passion as a fitness professional, you help increases regular exercise, provide advice on healthy eating, and help millions of Americans live healthier lives. We have a powerful story to tell and now is the time to spread the word about our industry's critical role in promoting public health. Let's Get Active.
